1950s  By the mid-1950s, before the 1956 county-wide consolidation, some school boards in Clark County hired nurses to work in schools. For example, in 1955 Arlene Gilbert was hired by the Henderson School District to be the nurse at Carver Park School.

At about the same time, Katy Lee Butler was hired as a school nurse at Basic Elementary School and later worked in the same capacity at Basic High School. Before retiring in 1975, Butler saw most of the Henderson students at one time or another. While employed at Basic High school, Butler started and was advisor to a Future Nurse Club there.

In the 1950s and beyond, the health office was a small room just off the main office. When the nurse was not there the school secretary handled minor first aid.
