Early History

The earliest motorized student transportation appeared in Clark County Educational District No. 1, which was formed by the state legislature in 1918, and included Virgin Valley and Moapa Valley. The left bottom photograph shows the school bus nicknamed “Old Henry.” While mainly used for student transportation, the bus was also used to move teachers to staff development training events. In this photo, "Old Henry" transported educators to the Teacher Institute in Las Vegas, and is stopped on the old Arrowhead Highway in the Valley of Fire.
