1861  The territory of Nevada was formed by an Act of Congress. Population was listed as “16,437 plus 10,000 Indians.”

1902  School nursing was born in America when Lillian Wald, the mother of Public Health Nursing, initiated a successful demonstration project in the New York City school system to address communicable disease and absenteeism among school children. She assigned public health nurse Lina Rogers (Struthers) to work with these children and their families, and the documented results of nurse intervention showed improved attendance and health.
